Vasilikos

The Village

Between woods and olive groves in the middle of a charming landscape lies the scattered housing settlement Vasilikos, an area sporting the most beautiful bays and beaches of the island. This area in the southeast of the island reaches from Argasi out to Cape Gerakas on the semi-peninsula Skopos. There is no real village center, only small housing settlements. Off-shoots from the main road lead down to the beaches and bays, such as Porto Azzuro, Porto Zoro, to name just two.

The seven-kilometer-long beach of Ionion is considered to be the best beach on Zakynthos. It is many meters wide and has a shallow shore line making it ideal for children. Another swimming area of this region is the beach of Agios Nikolaos which, although smaller than Ionion, is just as beautiful. All kinds of water sports are offered on this beach.

The road to Cape Gerakas leads through a dreamlike pine wood and ends at a beautiful sandy beach. The region of Gerakas and the other beaches in the area are the main breeding places of the famous water turtle Caretta caretta. Members of the National Sea Park are always onsite for their protection and to inform interested vacationers.
